Ujj-Mészáros Károly (Screenwriter and director team)

Director, screenwriter, producer. He turned to filmmaking after finishing his export trading studies, he made his first short film in 1994. He attended a training at the London Drama School, and he’s working as a freelance producer, directing ads since 1999. His ten short films were screened at over thirty film festivals, winning more than 12 awards. He made over 200 advertisments in the last 15 years. His first feature film, Liza the Fox-fairy was competing at nearly 50 festivals, winning 33 domestic and foreign awards.

Maruszki Balázs (script developement team)

Balázs Maruszki is a screenwriter-dramaturge, and a member of the script developer team of the Hungarian National Film Fund. He was born in 1968 in Budapest. He graduated from Film Script Editing at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest. He wrote the screenplays for Children of the Green Dragon and Hacktion. He was awarded the Debut Award on the Hungarian Film Week and the Golden Panda Prize at the Sichuan TV Festival for the scrennplay for Sleepwalkers. He’s leading the script developer team for Filmtett Workshop for the second time.

Kerékgyártó Yvonne (script developement team)

She is a screenwriter, film director, one of the mentors in the Incubator Programme of the Hungarian National Film Fund. She was born in 1989 in Budapest. She has studied screenwriting and film dramaturgy at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest. She made her debut as a director with the short film Pinkwater; her first feature film, Free Entry was completed in 2014.

Nagy V. Gergő (script developement team)

He is a dramaturge and a film critic. He studied sociology and aesthetics at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University and dramaturgy at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest (UTFA). At the moment he is interested in the dramaturgy of film endings and he’s studying this topic as a PhD student at the UTFA. He writes reviews, essays and articles for magazines like FilmtettFilmvilágMagyar NarancsPrizma and Revizor. He works as a screenwriter, often collaborating with Petra Szőcs, Gábor Hörcher, György Pálfi and Zsófia Ruttkay.

Vácz Péter (animation team)

Péter Vácz was born in 1988 in Budapest. He graduated from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Animation BA and MA with his films called Streamschool and Rabbit and Deer which has won over 125 awards at international festivals. He attended ASF – The Animation European Production Workshop and took the Professional 3D Character Animation Course in Denmark. Since 2013 Péter is represented by the London based production company Picasso Pictures where he made James’ All I’m Saying music video. After working a year in France and another in Berlin, Péter is currently based in Budapest.

Pálos György (cinematography and camera team)

Pálos is a Balázs Béla Award-winning film director, cinematographer, producer, screenwriter. He has 25 years experience in making movies. He won the Kamera Hungária Award three times. He is a member of the Hungarian Film Artists’ Association, the Guild of the Hungarian Directors and the Independent Hungarian Film Association. He was working for the International Public Television Conference for 15 years and he was the leader of the MillenTV Studio for 5 years. He has been working as lecturer at different universities. He worked at the City University of Hong Kong, now he’s teaching at the Eötvös Lóránd and Metropolitan universities at Budapest and the Sapientia University in Transylvania.

Bántó Csaba (cinematography and camera team)

Csaba Bántó is cinematographer. He graduated from cinematography at the Sapientia University, and at this moment he is studying for his MA Degree at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest. This is his sixth year at the Filmtett Workshop, co-leading of the Cinematography team.

Lemhényi Réka (editing team)

She is a Golden Scissors Award-winning film editor. She graduated from the University of Theatre and Film Arts. She edited films like TamaraDallas PashamendeTaxidermiaThe Door and Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen! She also has experience in editing documentaries (Életek énekeBalkán bajnok) and TV series (Therapy). In 2016 February she was nominated for the Gopo Award, the Oscar-equivalent of Romania (for editing the movie De ce eu?). She’s returning for the second time editor’s team at Filmtett Workshop.

Kővári Szabolcs (editing team)

Szabolcs Kővári is an editor. He studied at Sapientia University. At this moment he is working in Budapest and studying further at the University of Theatre and Film Arts. This is going to be his second time in our workshop.

Rudolf Várhegyi (sound engineering team)

Sound engineer, sound designer. He’s editing film sound since 1983, first at the state-run studio, then as an independent. He tried every stage of the profession, he was a cable puller, boom operator, sound recorder, studio technician etc. He worked as an on-set or studio sound engineer for a number of films (for instance The Wednesday ChildCsinibaba and Eskimo Woman Feel Cold). He is teaching at several workshops and schools since 2007: Metropolitan University, Dunaversitas, Polifilm Workshop, Werk Academy, Filmtett Workshop (9th time).

Lukács Péter Benjámin (sound engineering team)

He is a sound engineer and sound designer. He became a filmmaker after studying film aesthetics; he became interested in sound editing and scoring as a graduate student at the ELTE. He gained experience in this profession at Inforg Studio and at New York Studio. He worked on films such as Balaton Method, on Péter Lichter’s experimental short movie, entitled For Some Inexplicable Reasons, on documentaries and on two animated shorts directed by Réka Bucsi (Symphony no. 42 and LOVE). He is a lecturer at MOME, and this year is going to be his sixth time at the Filmtett Workshop.

Iszlai József (sound engineering team)

He is a sound engineer and a film critic. He graduated from Sapientia University, Film-Photo-Media, where he became interested in sound editing. He worked on short movies and animations as a sound engineer and composed music for experimental art installations, concerts and theatre plays. In 2015 he was the leader of the sound design group at Primanima World Festival of First Animations. This is his third year as an assistant in the Sound Engineering Team.

Durst György (Production Manager, Producer- and Director-Assistant Team)

György Durst is one of the founders of the Filmtett-Duna Workshop and one of the constant mentors. He’s the president of the curator board of the Mediawave Foundation and a Balázs Béla Award-winning producer. Between 1974 and 1996 he was an organizer, then executive secretary at the Balázs Béla Studio. He was running Duna Műhely between 1995 and 2011. He owns the Kép-Árnyék Motion Picture Company, which he founded in 1995. In 1997 he has founded the Premier Plan Association. Between 2002 and 2011 he was working for the Duna Television, as dramaturgy director. Between 2010 and 2012 he was a member of the executive board of the Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation. Between 2005 and 2010 he was the president of the Hungarian Film Clubs and the Film Lovers Association. He won a Palme d’Or as a producer in 1996 for Marcell Iványi’s film (Wind) and in 2002 for Péter Mészáros’s short movie (After Rain). As a producer he worked on movies like KöntörfalakPescanik / FövenyóraMilky Way, László Nemes Jeles’s short Patience and on several films made by Gyula Nemes or the Buharov Brothers.

Pápai Zsolt (Critics’ Team)

He is a lecturer at the Eötvös Lóránd University at the Department of Film Studies. He graduated in Hungarian History in 1992 from the Eötvös Lóránd University. He is teaching since 2001, first at the Teacher-Forming High School from Esztergom, then at the University of Szeged and at Pázmány Péter University. Since 1992 he has written film critics, articles, essays, interviews for different periodicals, sites, online magazines like MetropolisFilmvilágFilmtettMagyar NarancsIskolakultúraPergő KépekA DunánálPannonhalmi SzemleShoot in HungaryWanted, mozivadasz.hu, magyar.film.hu, sziget.hu. With his colleagues’ and students’ aid he wrote and published a book, entitled Korszakalkotók. After 2007 and 2011, this year he is going to be the leader of the critics’ team the third time.

Critics’ Team

Jakab-Benke Nándor (Critics’ Team)

He is a journalist, film critic and editor at Filmtett – Hungarian Film Portal of Transylvania. He graduated in journalism (BA) from Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj Napoca, Romania), then in film directing from Sapientia University (Cluj Napoca, Romania) in 2008. He’s the editor of the film review column since 2006. He was the editor-in-chief of kukker.ro, a video sharing site, he draws satirical comic strips for főtér.ro. Every now and then he makes short films too. This is the third year when he is going to lead the critics’ team in the Filmtett Workshop.
